The fluids in your vehicle are incredibly important and help keep it running smoothly for longer. Just like with wheel alignments, staying on top of your oil changes is crucial. Knowing everything you can about changing your oil can help you get the most out of this maintenance procedure.
Every car is different and will have specific requirements when it comes to getting the oil changed. However, most people get new oil every 3,000 miles or three months, whichever comes first. Check your car’s owner’s manual to see what intervals the manufacturer recommends.
There are many different kinds of motor oil, and your vehicle will need a specific type. Your owner’s manual will tell you what the weight of the oil should be and whether or not you need synthetic. The recommendation of the automaker is going to be the best one for your car, so it is important that you know what it is.
To check your oil level, locate the dipstick and pull it out. Wipe it off with a towel, and put it back in the reservoir before pulling it out again to see where the oil is in comparison with the markings on the dipstick. This will tell you whether or not your oil level is low.
